The Dawah committee is for Islamic education events for Muslim/Non Muslim brothers and sisters on campus.
Responsibilities:
1) Plan events for large audiences, to serve as a reminder/encouragement for students to stay in touch with their deen
2) Plan regularly occurring halaqas/classes for brothers and sisters
3) Remain inclusive to different individuals, including those who are:

    • Muslim practicing
    • Muslim non-practicing
    • Non-Muslim

This committee will be composed of both brothers and sisters, who will work collectively to host events for the general Muslim population on campus under one head.

The UOMSA Outreach committee (OUT-CO) is a subgroup of the UOMSA filled with caring and enthusiastic individuals who offer their help to any philanthropic causes. The outreach committee is also responsible for creating and fostering relationships outside the association, in order to the unity and interconnectedness of our community.

OUT-CO is responsible for doing charitable events or coordinating with other worthy causes so that we can support and reach out to other charitable organizations in the local area and place beyond it too.
Responsibilities include:

  1. Planning Fundraising events that serve philanthropic causes and events that show the Muslim presence in any philanthropic causes.
  2. Appealing to and inviting students who wouldn’t normally participate in MSA events/activities to participate.
  3. Developing relationships with other Muslim organizations, including but not limited to: masajid, charities, Muslim associations, etc.
  4. Facilitate the anonymous asking of religious questions for students of the university.
  5. Writing and connecting with people of knowledge for a monthly newsletter, “Fiqh You’re Interested In” to answer the anonymously asked questions

Examples of events held last year:

    • Mental Health Awareness
    • Fall fair
    • Asked and Answered Event
    • Sadaqa Foodbank fundraising and volunteering
    • Lunchbox: making 150 lunches for the less fortunate

The UOMSA Student Support committee is a new subgroup of the UOMSA filled with caring and enthusiastic individuals who offer their help specifically towards the student body, including the international student population, the convert student population, and other groups that may not be receiving the attention they need.

The UOMSA Student Support committee is also responsible for organizing events that will mainly benefit the main three groups mentioned above.
Moreover, the UOMSA Student committee is responsible for creating a welcoming environment to all the students and other responsibilities include:

  1. Planning events online and on campus once we get back.
  2. Appealing to and inviting students who would not normally participate in MSA events/activities to participate.
  3. Organizing events where French will be one of the languages spoken.
  4. Working closely with the Student support officer

Examples of events:

    • Organizing bilingual events and mental health events
    • Asked and Answered Event
    • Aiding the chaplaincy program

The Sisters Social committee is for all social events, activities, and initiatives for Muslim/Non Muslim sisters on campus.
Responsibilities:

  1. Plan appropriate events for sisters to socialize and enjoy their time within the halal boundaries.
  2. Have a variety of events and try to be as inclusive as possible.

Examples:

    • Basketball tournament
    • Sisters Boxing

The Brothers Social committee is for all social events, activities, and initiatives organized for Muslim/Non Muslim brothers on campus..
Responsibilities:

  1. Plan appropriate events for brothers to socialize and enjoy their time within the halal boundaries.
  2. Have a variety of events and try to be as inclusive as possible

Examples:

    • Soccer Tournament
    • Video Game Night
    • Ice Skating

The Marketing committee is responsible for marketing and promotion of all Association events, activities, and initiatives.
Responsibilities:

  1. Design – Once an event is approved by the UOMSA executive board, the marketing committee proceeds to making a poster meeting the proposal’s requirements
    Every poster must include the UOMSA logo and be sent to the UOMSA executive board for final approval before printing
  2. Promotion – The committee is responsible for printing posters and flyers, as well as distribute them around campus prior to the event.
    The members are responsible for sharing the poster or flyers onto social media websites (Facebook, Twitter, etc)
  3. Events photography & Video-recording – Members will be documenting each UOMSA event before, during, and after through video clips and pictures

The Operations committee is responsible for the operational logistics of all Association events, activities, and initiatives.
Responsibilities:

  1. Logistics – Handle and organize the logistics that go into planning events and carry out the tasks that will enable the event to be successful
  2. Administration – Assist the Administrative Officer in all clerical duties and tasks
  3. Finance – Prepare budgets for all minor and major UOMSA events

The Prayer Space committee is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the prayer spaces in the University of Ottawa.
Responsibilities:

  1. Maintaining the main prayer spaces (UCU 125 and CBY- B 505/506) on a weekly/bi-weekly basis.
  2. Helping on a weekly basis to set up Jumah prayers (Terminus)
  3. Adjust and enforce prayer space rules and regulations

The Bilingualism Committee will ensure that all activities, events, sermons, social media posts, and public material accommodate our Francophone audience as much as possible. These are the main tasks that the Committee members will work on:

  1. Translating online posts on social media, newsletters, and other channels.
  2. Provide support for Francophone students during in-person events.
  3. Working towards having bilingual sermons, Halaqas, and social events whenever possible.
